"World Cup Affected ''Hattrick''"

The World Cup has played truant. And as predicted by this writer at the very outset, the cricket matches have cut into the business of all films, new

and old. One of the films that have been hit badly is UTV's HATTRICK, directed by Milan Luthria.

"We were prepared, we knew it all along that the matches would cut into our business,” Milan Luthria is honest enough to admit the facts, "But we

can't hide behind the excuse of cricket. We had a slow start, got hit on Saturday due to the match India versus Bangladesh, were stable on

Sunday, but were down on Monday again due to the India versus Bermuda match.”

That's precisely what I told Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV this morning. Let's get introspective. What kind of a feedback has he received so far? "Very

frankly, it's 50:50. Some people have liked it, some have disliked it completely. Some felt TAXI NO. 9211 was better, some were of the opinion that

HATTRICK comes nowhere close to TAXI. It's not a unanimous feedback,” Milan agrees.

Please continue. "See, people were expecting an out and out comedy, but HATTRICK isn't that. It blends humor with emotions and drama and that's

quite tricky. But it's a learning experience. Ronnie Screwvala and Sid Siddharth Roy Kapur are standing by the product. They aren't ashamed of

it,” he states.

Meanwhile, Milan is ready to move on to his next film, to be produced by Adlabs independently. "It's a big-budget film with a massive star cast. Right

now, we've only confirmed Sanjay Dutt, while four more heroes are under finalization. Genre? It's an action film with ample doses of humor,” Milan

divulges.

The script -- the first draft -- has already been okayed by the production house as well as the director. Rajat Aroraa, the writer of TAXI NO. 9211 and

HATTRICK, is writing this script as well. "He's a brilliant writer,” Milan says, justifying his decision of opting for Aroraa again. The as-yet-untitled film

is expected to take off in October this year.

Meanwhile, Milan is committed to start one more film for Ramesh Sippy. The jodi was expected to team up again after the success of TAXI NO. 9211.

"But the problem is, we haven't decided on the script yet. The day we lock the script, we'd make the announcement instantly,” Milan says.

So where does that leave BEEHAD, Sanju and Kumar Gaurav's home-production? "That's happening as well. This one will star Sanju, while we

need to finalize one more lead man after Ajay Devgan's exit. Ajay has got busy with his own production and we're still looking at a replacement,”

Milan adds.
