Legendry south Indian film actress Padmini passed away following a heart attack at the Apollo Hospital late Sunday night. She was 74.
Padmini made her last public appearance at a function on Saturday night to felicitate Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
Also referred to as Padmini Ramachandran, she was the second of the famous ''Travancore Sisters''. Padmini had acted in more than 250 films in a career spanning 30 years, starting out in 1949.
Born June 12, 1932 she made her debut at the age of 17 in the Hindi film Kalpana 1949 and her first Tamil film was Manamagal 1950.
Padmini was paired with Raj Kapoor in movies like Jish Des Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Aashiq and Mera Naam Joker and had done quite a few films in Hindi apart from some major work in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada.
