By IndiaFM News Bureau

Mira Nair's The Namesake marked the end of the week long International Film Festival, Mumbai when it was screened as the closing film last evening. Neither Mira Nair nor the film's principle cast or crew were present at the occasion.

Prior to the screening, a closing ceremony was held at the Ravindra Natkiya Academy which was attended by quite a few people associated with the festival.

Cinematographer and film-maker Govind Nihalani received the Kodak Award for Technical Excellence while Aparna Sen received the award for significant Contribution to the Cinema over 25 years.

"In India, it is easy to get producers for films with celebrities and fashion statements. However one still is struggling to find financers who would back up a project involving farmers committing suicides because of their debts”, said Sen at the event.

A four member International Jury headed by Girish Karnad gave the prize away to the film Sonam in the best Indian film competition.
