Veteran Gulzar conducted a 2-hour master-class with the students of Whistling Woods International, located at Film City, Mumbai recently. Also, during his visit, Gulzar planted a tree on the Whistling Woods campus grounds, which was christened ‘Gulzar Tree of Knowledge’.
During the master-class, he explained in detail the primary variance in the art and technique of lyric writing, script writing and dialogue writing, giving specific references of his various films from BANDINI to MAACHIS and HU TU TU.
He discussed writing in Indian cinema in the 50s and 60s and the drastic change it has undergone in today’s cinema, which attempts to convey through visuals rather than content. He further emphasized the significance of language accuracy needed in today’s films.
