By now it is common news that former heavy-weight boxing champion Mike Tyson will be a part of a promotional song in Firoz Nadiadwala''s Fool N Final. But if you thought that Mike is the only foreign artist to be working in this film, then guess again. The highlight of any Firoz Nadiadwala film has been its action packed climax that is mounted on a lavish scale. Awara Pagal Deewana and Deewane Huye Pagal are apt examples. Firoz won''t disappoint with Fool N Final either.
Full On Finale
Director of Fool N Final Ahmed Khan gives us the details. "In the last climax action scene, I have procured one fighter from Kung Fu Hustle. He is from the Shaolin. If you see him, you will say that you have seen him somewhere. Then there is this guy called Rubin who was in Phantom of the Opera. He is from London. Then there is this guy Wilson who is from the Gladiator. He is from the U.S.”
And what are these action masters doing in the film? "They all play gladiators in the film and they are pitted against the Indian gladiator Sunny Deol in the final climax sequence. It''s an amazing fight on top of the edge of water. There is a bare-knuckle fight, very illegal and people are betting on them”, explains the filmmaker with a lot of excitement palpable in his voice.
A left jab and two left feet
Coming back to Mike Tyson one wonders how the idea of roping in someone like Mike Tyson in a Bollywood film and that too for a promotional track must have cropped up.
"This was an idea given to us by Mushtaq Nadiadwala, Firoz''s younger brother”, reveals Ahmed. An idea is fine but what about the execution? How did they get in touch with Tyson? "My producer is quite influential and savvy about international artists making an appearance in his films. In one week I heard that Firoz had spoken to Tyson''s lawyers and things have been worked out. As a director I was overjoyed and knew that was incredible.”
Incredible yes, but the words Mike Tyson and ''dancing'' doesn''t exactly seem to fit in one sentence. "I know the combination is weird. I''m not too sure on what I''m going to do with him although we are shooting for a music video. I have yet to be clear on what I am going to do with him. Am I going to make him dance? I don''t know. There was an article I read recently on a newspaper which asked various choreographers whether they would want to choreograph Tyson. Most of them were quite reluctant because you are dealing with ''Iron'' Mike Tyson, former heavyweight World Champion. He is a big guy. Its not that I can easily tell him to turn left or right and he''ll do it easily. He is a tough guy to deal with and I am tough too”, Ahmed goes onto add.
That which we call a fool by any other name would still be an idiotic
But the film is not all kill kill bang bang. One of the writers of the film is Neeraj Vora who has written the dialogues of a lot of Priyadarshan comedies apart from directing Phir Hera Pheri.
For basics, the names of the leading star cast is quite funny and some well most even ironic.
Sunny Deol is the very local but tough guy. He is like a real life hulk. And his name happens to be Munnna. Funny and ironic. "Yes it is. Whenever Om Puri, Sharmilaji Tagore or Vijay Raaz are in trouble, they shout out ''Munnnaaaaa''. And we wonder which kid are they calling. And then lands this huge overgrown kid. When he makes an entry the whole world shatters and there is trembling sound and he starts whacking people. It is a very funny role that he is doing.” And it gets better. Apparently when he makes an entry the sound in the background plays as ''Munnna Munnna le sabki tunna''
And if you thought that was funny, you have to hear about the rest of the cast. Shahid Kapoor''s name is Rajaa and the only problem in his name is that he is a pauper. Then comes Viveik Oberoi. "His name is Luckee and once again there is an irony in his name. He believes that when money talks, bull shit walks. The problem is that he doesn''t have money”, laughs Ahmed on his movie characters.
Arbaaz Khan''s name is Moscow Chikna while Jackie Shroff is called Gunmaster G9. Gunmaster G9? Wasn''t that Mithun Chakravarthy''s name in a James Bond kind of masala flick Suraksha way back in 1979? "Yes, Jackie''s character is still living in that era and not in 2007. And Arbaaz believes he is from Russia, hence Moscow Chikna even though he has never been to Russia.”
There is Johnny Lever who is called Pattu Pilot. "He believes he is the fastest car driver in Dubai so he calls himself that. He ends up crashing his car everywhere. So we have a Malayalee, Bihari, Gujrati and Sindhi and of whom rack their brains”, concludes Khan
A perfect blend of stunts and humour, Fool N Final seems to rightly justify the idea of an ''action-comedy''.
